2008 American Idol Season

The 2008 season is here and TrendMojo is getting ready.

We stopped tracking the 2007 contestants at the end of the year but i started looking at several of the class of 2007 again today: Jordin, Blake, Melinda LaKisha and Sanjaya. Ever noticed how you improve your chances if your name ends in an “a”?

Check out their ratings at http://www.trendmojo.com/americanidol/ As soon as the 2008 contestants are announced we will start tracking the buzz for this superb crowd.

I am still using the ProWebSurfer service to see Sanjaya every time I use the web. Memories…

American Idol Double Elimination round

Now we have been running our American Idol TrendMojo report for the past few weeks, its time to make a prediction. It would appear that based on buzz Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson are the most likely to be eliminated in today’s vote (May 2).

Lets see…will they be the two-some going home after tonight’s vote? The interesting thing is that neither one of them is on the top 3 per TrendMojo.

Based on sentiment from recent blog posts, Lakisha had a great night last night and TrendMojo reflects that – she is in the number one position.

TrendMojo – Sanjaya exit predicted…

The TrendMojo tracking site shows a clear fall in quantity of user-generated postings, and reduced positive buzz in these postings. a betting man could take this as an indicator of weakness and predict Sanjaya’s exit.

This TrendMojo stuff is cool.

(For Sajaya fans, check out the video from ProWebSurfer. Better still, sign up for the free ProWebSurfer service and get Sanjaya pictures all over your browser).

Sometimes I hate when I’m right

How can someone hate to be right? Don’t we always want to be right? Well not always. Let me give you an example.

Say there’s a 24 hour flu’ going around. You wake up one morning feeling a little off and you know that you’ve caught that bug, still, you deny it because you figure it if you ignore the symtoms they’ll go away. Sure enough, by that afternoon you’re hurling your guts up in the toilet, who in your delirium you’ve fondly named “Ralph”. In a moment of clarity you wish that you weren’t right.

That’s how I felt last night when the bottom three were Haley, Chris and Phil. Sanjaya wasn’t even in the bottom three! First came disbelief. Then anger. Then extreme puke-your-guts-up nausea. And sadly, I was right. Haley left. Haley I want you to know how unfair it was and you were voted off not because you can’t sing, but because this isn’t really a singing contest anymore. Here are my reasons why you didn’t make it:

1) Starry eyed pre-teens jammed the lines voting for Sanjaya who could probably howl like a coon dog and still get enough votes to stay on… hey wait… he does howl like a coon dog…. no offense to coon dogs. At least coon dogs are suppose to sound like a coon dog.

2) Howard Stern’s nefarious plot to encourage people to vote for Sanjaya to screw Fox network and its popular show is actually working. There was something on NPR about this very thing this morning.

3) Our world is ruled by preteens and people with no taste. The latter might be true considering the popularity of “Are you Smarter Than a 5th Grader”. I mean, come on. Whether it’s true or not, would you really want to go on national TV in front of millions to answer that question?

Anyway, what’s done is done, and another contestant with loads more talent than Sanjaya is voted off.

Once again, I hate to be right about this, but I think the next one to go will be Phil Stacey.

I would like to suggest to Sanjaya that you step down, yes, voluntarily take yourself OUT of the competition. If Howard Stern’s “Fanjayas” are really prevailing, is that how you want to keep winning? By garnering votes not because of talent but because of a lack of talent and people trying to screw Fox Network? It’s up to you, dude.

Idol Threats

American Idol is down to its final 8 contestants. One of those eight will say bye-bye tonight. My vote, as usual, goes for Sanjaya to be voted off and put out of our misery. I don’t know about you, but whenever he’s on I squirm uncomfortably, embarrassed for him. I noted a bit piece in this week’s Entertainment Weekly about “Fanjayas” (Howard Stern claims to be one… er… okay), who encourage people to vote in an effort to ruin the popular Fox show. Bleh to that. Let’s not sacrifice the other contestants who should be on the show to keep Sanjaya on to spite Fox. This hurts the contestants more than the show.

Best song last night was, hands down, our beat-box dude Blake. He’s my favorite. Maybe I should go on a hunger strike if Blake is voted off before Sanjaya.

Melissa Dolittle already looks and sounds like a star to me. I think she could sing the phone book and make it sound delicious. I love Queen LeKesha, too. I think it’s awesome that her purpose for doing this is to find a better life for her daughter. Very sweet. Both ladies have loads and loads of talent.

I adore Jordin Sparks.  If I were a music exec I would have my eye on her.  She’s 17, has tons of appeal and natural charisma.  She could very well be the next teen singing sensation.

I like both Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson.  It is my opinion that one of these is next to go after Haley.

Oh.  Did I mention who I think is going to be voted off tonight?   As much as I’d love it to be Sanjaja, I think it’s gonna be Haley. She’s not the best, admittedly, but still she has way way more talent and appeal than Sanjaya. Alas, it doesn’t seem to matter in this year of American Idol. The “vaguely effeminate, harmless looking Sanjaya” seems to appeal to the pre-teen girls and maybe they do a lot of voting.

More mindless drivel coming tomorrow. I’ll probably be a sputtering mess when, once again, Sanjaya survives another round of voting to once again embarrass us with his lack of talent.
